About the Tokai Love Rock LS-100
The LS-100 is the first of the rare tier of vintage Love Rocks (1979-85), the model where the DiMarzio PAFs come in: the LS-100, LS-120 and LS-150 shipped with them where the LS-50 to LS-80 carried Gotohs, with double-cream sets on some. Like the LS-80 it has nitrocellulose lacquer that yellows with age and nickel hardware, plus an aluminium stop bar and a deeper neck tenon than the LS-80, though in 1984, a year when specifications wandered, owners say every model from the LS-50 to the LS-200 shared the same joint. Owners date theirs from 1979 to 1985. Dating: until mid-1980 the model was stamped into the fingerboard behind the last fret; from the second half of that year it moved to a sticker on the back of the headstock, an oval patch under the serial that shows when breathed on, and an ink stamp in the pickup cavity, and a refret can sand the fingerboard stamp away. Serials from 1980 begin 00 like those from 2000; the truss-rod cover, the pickups and the pot dates tell them apart.
The name returned on the Vintage Series: the modern LS100 is the LS98F renamed when the price rose in 2011, and the LS100F of 2013-14, a veneer flame top on a two-piece back, poly finish, a standard tenon and MK2 PAF pickups. By 2016 the same guitar was the LS136F. Necks on the modern guitars run in two camps: the models from the 100 up carry fat 1959-style profiles, the ones below it thinner 1960s-style, one buyer found the LS-100's neck much thicker than the 2012 LS90Q bought instead.

Every recorded sale, one point each: 30 of them, placed by the day the ad went up. Too few sales to draw a trend through them without inventing one, so the points speak for themselves. Condition is mixed, so some of the spread is a mint against a fair rather than the market moving.

What owners have said elsewhere
Paraphrased from 33 discussion threads among 53 owners, 2021-2026. No names, nothing quoted.
The vintage LS-100 is called the best Les Paul its owner has played in 35 years, ahead of a Gibson R8 that went; another 1981 is the best its owner has played, a third says the hype is real, and the regret of those who sold one runs through the threads. The modern one is rated top notch and, unlike the Gibson equivalent, not weight relieved; one owner's 1999 gold top is the one that gets played though others sound nicer, and one calls the LS100 built to exceed 1958-59 specification. The dissent: one 1985 owner is unconvinced by the DiMarzios, and against an LS-50 on the same amp listeners liked the LS-50's grit a hair more, giving the LS-100 the clarity. On pickups most advise leaving them, the Gotohs as good as anything, set the height and use the volume, while the swappers name Seymour Duncan Antiquity, Bare Knuckle Mule, Monty's, Eightbomb, Nowaxx and Tonerider PAF sets.
